Impact grade hickory Tapered from 1" to about 3/4" at the point and hand-shaped oval (lozenge) from the handle to the tip.
As they say, 'nothing beats a good piece of hickory' and this is what he was talking about. Hickory has a more sword-like feel to it. Its impact grade hickory that will last a long time. Hand oiled and sanded smooth the hickory is tapered from 1" to about 3/4" at the point. The blade is then hand-shaped oval (lozenge) from the handle to the tip. All sticks include a steel cross pin to hold the basket on the blade.
36 inches overall length

Defective/Poor quality or Bad luck?
I got 3 or 4 bouts from my first singlestick until it broke in half, then when I ordered a second one, it broke within first 10 minutes of use - $40 gone. I get that it's a piece of wood and won't last forever but this is ridiculous.

Pretty darn good
These are solid hickory, feel nice in the hand (with or without the basket) and can take a beating. The cross pin at the bottom may have a little bit of a bur, but are easily corrected with sandpaper.
