Basic Gambeson
Custom Measuring
Features

The HEMA FG 350N jacket was created on the basis of the old Basic version and thanks to the solutions achieved in the production of the PLUS series.

The FG 350N can be used by both beginners and advanced users. It is designed for any type of HEMA training. However, with the heaviest ones, it is worth getting additional overlays or cushioning layers.

The FG 350N gambeson is fastened with a zipper + velcro (so called double-closure), reaches to the middle of the thighs, and has slits on the sides. On the elbows there are additional mounting points for overlays, e.g. Shell or PRO. The collar has a blade-catcher.

Fabric, used during making of this gambeson has 350N puncture resistance. This specially developed system of layers ensures endurance and mobility during HEMA training. The gambeson is cut off at the body so that its lower part rests on the hips. The sleeves (sewn in deeply) consist of 2 elements and have gussets under the armpits. This ensures maximum mobility during training. Structurally, this jacket is similar to the AP PLUS 350N. The filling is made of recycled felt. Cushioning layers in it are located on the chest, shoulders and elbows.

This is one of the longest jackets in the SPES offer. Its length makes it fit the body better. Historical flair combined with modern solutions will certainly distinguish you during HEMA training.

  • it has a double-closure (velcro + zipper)
  • mounting points for overlays on elbows, e.g. Shell or PRO
  • one of the longest jackets in the SPES offer

This model was made with cooperation with " Fechtschule Gdansk" and Jan Chodkiewicz. It is worth mentioning that the roots of the FG gambeson date back to the beginnings of our company and cooperation with "Fechtshule Gdańsk". The first version of this unique jacket at that time was designed with the help of Jan Chodkiewicz. Its appearance resembles 15th-century gambesons.

The jacket is made of fabrics which have a 350N puncture resistance certificate.

"FG" Gambeson Basic 350N V2.0 (09/2015)

• The fabrics have been certified 350N puncture resistance.
• The construction of the jacket was strengthened.

4 of 5 Modern thin June 6, 2023

I have an older  SPES Axel Jacket V2.0 350N and this is a replacement for it. In most ways it is an upgrade but it is thinner using modern padding instead of traditional think layer cloth. I would have preferred the thick old style, but the modern design does have some advantages for being cooler and more flexible before breaking it in.

This gambison is terrific.  Good protection, feels well fitted without being the least bit of constriction.  On top of that, the aesthetic is brilliant.  Well worth the price and the wait.
