Made for sparring against synthetic weapons only. If you read the tiny writing inside the buckler it clearly says never to use this against steel swords. However Rapier should be fine as long as the rapier is not a side sword blade.

Plenty sturdy. Exactly what I wanted. Tried it out at fighter practice and it held up great against some pretty strong hits.

Very sturdy, a little thick and heavy but that's what you get for the price. You forget all about it once you start fighting though. Love that it has some decorations on it. Also handle is curved rectangular so you always know the orientation and have good control but still turns easily.
