Historical Information HERE.

This series of staves are made with 2 layers of impact grade hickory laminated together to form a strong, straight and defect free staff. This is the best wood possible for martial arts use. The hickory is strong, yet it is flexible to not be brittle when struck against other equipment. We hand oil at least 2 coat of a boiled linseed/mineral spirits mixture.

5 of 5 Excellent execution of historical Quarterstaff! November 19, 2021
Reviewer: Derick from Austin, TX United States
There are historic examples of oval European Quarterstaffs exist; I was excited Purpleheart made them.

As you would expect from PH, they are smooth and well finished. The shape fills the hand well and gives excellent kinesthetic feedback so your technique will be better in your exercises.

What I had not anticipated was how “alive” these feel in the hand compared to, say, a round rattan or round oak staff.  Material, weight, balance, finish, oval cross section—perfect combination.

The size in my hand is a touch smaller than perfect (XL hands) and it also seems fine to my wife who has small hands, so the size is pretty good.

I brought one to a practice; everyone had a positive response.

Weight listed: 3.8 Lbs. mine: 2.8

Texture: glides easily changing hand positions but enough texture for a confident hold.
