Solid impact grade hickory. 1-1/4" diameter.
The oldest European descriptions of staff fighting are dated back
to the 15th century. Most people today identify the quarterstaff with
English stories, such as the tales of Robin Hood. English authors such
as George Silver and Joseph Swetnam provide instructions on staff
combat. From their descriptions, the staff should be sized to its owner,
being as long as a person can reach above their own head.
Purpleheart Armory was founded on hickory, and we
continue to pride ourselves on the quality of our wooden training
weapons. For students of the quarterstaff, our staves are well known for
durability and workmanship. Our highly rigorous hand-selection process
identifies only the finest, unflawed staves to ensure safe training and
minimize unexpected failure. As with all natural wood products, some
minor variations may be present in grain and shaping.
