Had this for years but with the synthetic guard. In my last sparing session the guard broke in two disappointed that there isn't an option to get the metal guard separate anymore emailed them and have yet to get a response about it

3 of 5 Dangerous Training Tool June 25, 2020

I use the V2 Montante, which is, by far, the safest version you can grab. In terms of the weapon make, the plastic does have a problem setting, but this is easily overcome by turning it around every now and again wherever you have it stored if you notice its shape bending. More often than not, it will correct itself. However, the real biggest issue with this sword is the center of balance combined with the weight. The COB for the V2 is set at 4.5" from the bottom of the guard, with a 14" guard and the heavier pommel. The V3, as advertised, has a lighter pommel, shorter guard, and the COB is at 7" from the bottom of said guard! I cannot recommend this when practicing with anything short of true plated armor. Even with good padding and absorption, it leaves terrible bruising with light-moderate sparring.

5 of 5 Excellent Montante September 20, 2019
Reviewer: JP from Hoffman Estates, IL United States
I was on the fence between this one and the Blackfencer one, and I'm glad I bought this one. This one has a way better build quality, and the ability to dismantle it is nice. The nylon is very sturdy, way sturdier than the Blackfencer stuff, but it does have a problem with setting. If you acidentally leave this on the floor on a hot day, it will bend, but the nice thing about it is just flip it over, and it will bend back the other way.

This montante is still very heavy despite the COB being changed, and the supposed distal tapering. I can't recommend using this 100% against a sparring partner, even if they have full heavy gear. I'm p sure even with 800n protective gear, this will still hurt. Swing at like 60, 70% speed tops.

The updated tip is cool. The weight and balance are good for building strength. I can sparr safely with it.
