This is a hand and a half sword, also known as a bastard sword.

Sometimes called an arming sword when used by a mounted knight, the shortsword was used on battlefields from the 12th to the 15th century. A roundel or buckler was also common among fighters of that time.

Wobbly crosspiece
The wood seems of high quality, but there is only a single peg and no glue or epoxy securing the cross piece. During some drills with moderate impact, the peg holding the cross piece started to come out. Seems an impact-grade waster should be a bit more solidly built.
