Only the Emperor could grand a Gladiator his freedom. That freedom could be obtained if the Gladiator bravely distinguished himself in a particular fight or if he had fulfilled his contract. The symbol of freedom given to a Gladiator was a wooden sword called a Rudis.

EVOCATUS was the Latin term for a soldier in the Roman Army who had served out his time and obtained a discharge.
Helmet is 7" tall in front and about 4.25"wide and deep. About 9" tall with the stand.

Great piece for a great (office) warrior!
Once again, Purpleheart Armoury came through! They hit the deadline with a superior product. My outgoing employee was very impressed and happy with the gladiator helmet!
