cracked vertically up the entire shaft in multiple places. Splintery, dinged, and unfinished. I've could have gotten better quality from Home Depot at a 10th of the price.

This is an especially great combination of wood, woodworking process, size, weight and engraving. Impact Grade Hickory is embraced by many knowledgeable bokken, wooden sword experts as among the best and often, the best itself. The reason is in the balance of properties. For example, for Arnis Bahi and Kamagong are favorites for fighting sticks different from rattan selected for training. While their Janka Wood Harness Scale rating is higher, these woods do not have the same resilience as Impact Grade Hickory. Also, while all woods vary, the specific density to weight ratio holds a perfection of striking effectiveness along with the resilience and wielding excellence. In a Bo Staff of these proportions, with the extra strength caused by lamination, and that these can be straightened when they bend by leverage using tree branches or a vice - a winner exists. If you don't love it, its your problem!

The Bo Staff is very well made, outside of the bowing. I'd like to find out how to straighten the staff. Is this possible?
