I bought this for my son aged 7, or in case I wanted a light-weight trainer for casual practice. I've been happy with the purchase. The outer fabric is very tough and does not break easily, and getting hit with it is not painful (in contrast to regular toy swords that are actually quite painful!). I also use it to practice hitting a target. I also do that with a shinai. I find the feeling to be very similar, and it is shorter than my shinai, which makes handling easier. All in all, a great product for a very decent price.
