Description Sizing

At a full 53 inches long, this is a strong, commanding blade made of Impact-Grade Hickory. The extra handle length provides greater leverage and control. The weapon is handled much differently than a longsword.

History
Possibly in use as early as 1180, these swords are slightly larger than a longsword. They were also known by Marozzo and other Italian Masters as a "spada a due mani" or "two handed sword". They were only used by infantrymen, used against pole-arms and axes. These weapons are typically shown in German manuals such as Han Talhoffer's Fechtbuch. They weighed between 3 and 4 lbs and varied from 44 to 53 inches long.
Features
  • Made of Impact-Grade American Hickory Hardwood

5 of 5 Excellent Zweihander August 31, 2020
Reviewer: Carlos Aquino from Philadelphia, PA United States
The sword is fantastically constructed- from the tip to the pommel. Its quality is readily apparent to a novice like myself. The weight and balance are good, and the finishing renders the entire thing smooth and polished. Representatives were helpful and very quick to respond to a question I had so I would definitely recommend this company and their products.

5 of 5 With Steel Pommel Handles like a Sword June 16, 2020
Reviewer: Kurt Zubatiuk from Toronto, ON Canada
Purpleheart wooden words work really well with steel pommels. I requested that my new greatsword be fitted with one (the same Christian uses on his canes), and the weight, heft and balance all really come into their own. I love my new greatsword, it is fantastic for solo outdoor use. (I train in public parks.) The two Purpleheart longsword wasters I bought 8 years ago both have steel pommels, too. I had those fitted locally. So, what excitement to discover that Christian now has that as an option from the get-go.

4 of 5 Extremely happy, however a tad upset. February 20, 2020

This is an excellent training piece. It's cheap and it will let you know if you are REALLY wanting to train Greatsword. Apart from other choices, this is an option at high quality without breaking the bank. It is true impact grade hickory, you could probably play baseball with this thing. Balance is on point to greatswords.

However, I do have some minor issues. The pommel shown in picture is more of a mahogany colored wood. That's not the case, the pommel is the same color (hickory) as the rest of the piece. Not a real big problem.

Another issue is that the handle is skewed by roughly 5 degrees. But you can't ask for perfectly straight from a piece of wood.

The two smaller fullers on the sides of the main fuller are almost completely cut however mine has one of the side fullers barely scratched into it and it is really noticeable.

5 of 5 Very sturdy and easy to use. May 6, 2019

This is probably the perfect length and weight for about anyone looking for a wooden sword that is on the longer side. It came in perfect condition and even after a few messups I have yet to leave any visible marks or damage. Great purchase.
