Protects your hands and forearms very well against fairly sharp blows. You'll feel it, but it will not be debilitating or damaging.
However, the articulation is non-existent, the construction looks slightly better than a DIY project (i.e., most of the inner lining is held on by glue without much stitching, and it quickly comes unglued), and the worst offender by far is that I can't keep my hands closed without wasting a lot of forearm energy. I spend so much energy keeping the glove closed, even after a long break in period, that I can barely grip my longsword. One of the guys from my club cut the arm cuffs off just to gain some wrist articulation, and that worked fairly well. But as they come, they aren't horrible, but they aren't terribly good.
