Knightshop Proline Xtreme Synthetic Longsword

These swords have been called “the Swiss Army Knife” of the Historical European Martial Arts world. The clever design allows for a multitude of different combinations of parts and colours to allow you to “create” the sword of your choice.

The swords can be taken apart easily by unscrewing the pommel. This not only makes transporting them easy – it also allows you to customise your sword with our range of interchangeable parts (available separately).

A synthetic sword without steel fittings weighs about 2/3 of the weight of a real sword. This is designed to lower the impact when sparring. The weight is kept back towards the hilt further lessening this impact. They are very well balanced and are heavier than most wooden wasters on the market.

range of swords is manufactured in the U.K to the highest quality. They are constructed from reinforced high impact plastic (U.K. sourced for quality control) unlike the cheaper inferior plastics used by other manufacturers. Recycled materials are used when available. Whilst this does not reflect in the quality of the product it does lessen the impact on the planet.

See Sizing tab for more information.
Longsword Review
This complete Longsword includes:

From the manufacturer's website:

They are constructed from a special blend of high impact plastic and can be used like a waster for Drilling and Pell Work and can also be used for Sparring (with appropriate protection).
  • The Blades are designed to flex in the last 1/3 of their length towards the tip allowing for much safer thrusting than with conventional wooden wasters or shinai. The blade/tang joint (traditionally a weak point) is reinforced by a high tensile steel rod running along the full length of the handle. This also removes any flex in the handle traditionally associated with plastic training swords.
  • The Standard Guard is constructed from reinforced high impact plastic. The ball shaped quillons are designed for safety when sparring (large surface area = less chance of being impaled). They are modelled using the same dimensions as seen on an existing 15th Century Longsword. This is a nice example of a historical design that helps us with safe sparring.
  • The grips are manufactured from a rubber-like thermoplastic elastomer designed to absorb the impact of strikes as they are transmitted along the blade. They are designed to slide off the Sword's tang with relative ease and will compress for a tight fit.
  • The Standard Pommel is constructed from high impact plastic. This provides our swords with excellent balance and makes them safer than metal pommels for pommel strikes. A brass nut is moulded into the pommel to provide a tight metal on metal joint to the tang.

Quick delivery, but everything came in a flimsy box that was crushed. The top half of the blade is bent off center by 1.5", hopefully it can be bent back.

Comparing the synthetics November 7, 2016

I've been doing HEMA since 2002, but my wife and kids are just getting into longsword, so I had each of them pick their own syntetic longsword. By luck they happened to pick all 4 variants! I'll do 1 review for the Rawlings and another review for the 3 Pentti.

My youngest had to choose the softer Rawlings to match the other kids in her class. I thought my little girl would like the lower weight of the synthetic pommel. However I noticed that the balance was pretty far forward so I ordered a steel pommel and she's happier for it. The friction on the handle is a bit grippy, but otherwise it is a fine sword for a beginner.

Knightshop Rawlings Synthetic Longsword May 3, 2016

I have been using practice and real swords for many years now, and I have to say that I'm impressed with this product.  I first learned about it through one of Skallagrim's videos.  I have used and owned multiple wooden and synthetic practice swords, and I find this one to handle the best, and best approximate my real longsword, both in dimensions, handling, and balance.  I bought this practice sword with the optional Stainless Steel PHA pommel, which adds a good degree of additional heft to the sword.  I intend to add the   KS Longsword Stainless Steel Guard in the not too distant future, since that should shift the weight to a balance point that will be a closer approximation of my real longsword.  But as it is, I like the feel of it, it handles VERY similarly to the real thing, and the flexibility of the tip is about right, not being so flexible that it allows flexing through a guard, but not too rigid either.  Overall, well worth the price.
