Singlestick: Used as a training weapon for the sabre/backsword in the 19th and 20th century.  Also as a sport, with one set of rules in Scotland being where one arm is tied down and requiring blood to be drawn from an opponents head.

B:  This wicker basket design is based on a vintage singlestick basket we found during our research.  This version has thicker wicker that makes it very strong.  We don't recommend this to be used with our 1" hickory sticks.  Before putting the stick into this basket, please soak the basket it warm water in order for the reeds limber up.  You can also soak the basket before use to extend its life.

C:  Thick cuir bouilli (wax hardened) leather make this a tough hilt.  Simple design makes it a strong economical choice.  ***Important - baskets are pre-drilled with a 3/4 inch hole - if you are ordering a basket only, please let us know if you need us to drill another size hole for you.

Sticks :   The hickory sticks are heavier and stiffer than the rattan plus the taper for better balance.  Use the hickory for better feedback during training and a more realistic sword weight.  The rattan is lighter and is will absorb impact better.  These are typically used for more intense bouting and those wanting quicker blade work. All sticks include a cross pin to reinforce the basket.

Orders for 3/4 inch rattan will be have a tolerance of 1/8 inch plus or minus on the thickness.
