SPES Lobster Heavy Gloves Version 1.0 - Pair

The SPES Heavies are designed to protect your hands from injury during training in historical fencing. These gloves provide full coverage for all five fingers in a lobster design.

The pockets are separated into a thumb slot, index and middles finger slot, and ring and pinkie fingers slot.

Thanks to these heavy gloves, training with heavy weapons, feders, and dussacks is much safer.

See Sizing tab for more information.

So far so good.... February 8, 2017
Reviewer: Heather Freeman from Charlotte, NC United States
I'm a woman with very small hands, and these fit really very well.  All the usual complains about the SPES Heavy apply... they're bulky, etc.  I haven't had a chance to use them sparring yet, but I feel confident they're do the job. One thing I noticed is potentially problematic padding on the underside of the thumb, actually. I had a friend get her thumb fractured with these same gloves from a solid hit.  I suspect what happened is that the shock was pushed through and compressed the thumb against the grip.  I'm not sure if a little extra padding on the understand of the thumb would help or not... may be a rare enough occurrence that it's a giant concern.  And extra padding would be the already-bulky bulk of the gloves bulkier.  But I'll add an addendum if I have any troubles otherwise!

My hands are safer! December 12, 2016
Reviewer: Jerrod Miller from Spokane, WA United States
Rather than the gauntlet cuffs just flaring out, it would be nice if the seam was left open and a velcro (or some other option) strap was added.  This would keep the cuff out of the way by doubling up one (or more) plates in the cuff, or allow maximum sizing when opened to the last plate.  Overall they are pretty good though.

This was a present and it seems to have been well received, though I have not even seen it yet myself.  It did take a very long time to come.

Great Protection, low thumb mobility November 21, 2016
Reviewer: Tony H from Plainfield, IN United States
The good :
- These gloves provide great protection for longsword and after breaking them in are very comfortable.
- The wrist mobility is great and finger movement feels good for longsword.

The bad :
- I have some issues with getting my thumb in place without presetting it or taking an exaggerated movement to get it in place.
- The end of thumb protection is fairly weak and with the blunk on these gloves your end of thumb is easily presented. If the mobility where better I could place my thumb on the blade preventing it from getting exposed like I do when I am not wearing the gloves but this just isn't an option with these.

Conclusion
These gloves work really well if you can get past the lack of mobility in your thumb or find a way past it.
