SPES Lobster Heavy Gloves Version 1.0 - Pair

The SPES Heavies are designed to protect your hands from injury during training in historical fencing. These gloves provide full coverage for all five fingers in a lobster design.

The pockets are separated into a thumb slot, index and middles finger slot, and ring and pinkie fingers slot.

Thanks to these heavy gloves, training with heavy weapons, feders, and dussacks is much safer.

See Sizing tab for more information.

  • The outside part of the palm and fingers are protected by the overlapping plastic elements made of polypropylene. Polypropylene has high resistance to cracking, which guarantees a higher durability.
  • The 11cm fabric cuff is reinforced by six plates covered with leather in order to protect the wrist bones.
  • A leather belt with buckle enables manual adjustment of the glove at the wrist for a better fit.
  • The inner part of the gloves is covered with synthetic leather.
  • The quilting on the gloves provides additional amortization against strikes to the hand.

Great gloves July 23, 2016

These have taken some nasty hits while on my hands(something I should probably work on), and the most pain I felt was a slight sting by a particularly hard hit right across my knuckles. NO damage to my hands whatsoever and minimal wear on the gloves considering the abuse I've put them through already in a relatively short time. The quality of them is top notch, You can see that they are professionally made as soon as you take them out of the box. I also own Red Dragon gloves, and I would not feel comfortable wearing those for full contact sparring using steel. The SPES  gloves are a no-brainer though. The one downside is that they limit your wrist movement to a certain degree, but in my experience it can be worked around. You won't be sorry.

No better place to spend your money May 19, 2016

I got these after breaking my finger with Red Dragon gloves.  While the Red Dragon gloves provide decent protection and reasonable mobility, these things are beastly and will keep my hands nice and safe.

They are big and have bulk but it's easy to grip the sword and the movement is really good especially the wrists-

Unparalleled protection May 3, 2016
Reviewer: Ryan Hobbs from Dublin, GA United States
The protection these gloves offer is amazing. After hours of intense free sparring with steel, only once was I given a blow that actually hurt (a weird hit on the thumb knuckle). The only complaint is the lack of finite control; the control isn't necessarily bad, but you can notice the lack. Grappling can sometimes be challenging, and if you end up on the ground wrestling you'll be at a severe disadvantage if the other person has more agile gloves. But, as always, there is always the trade off between mobility and protection. Especially if you're a beginner and aren't good at protecting your hands and fingers yet, or just don't want to risk an injury, then I would definitely recommend these gloves.
