SPES Lobster Heavy Gloves Version 1.0 - Pair

The SPES Heavies are designed to protect your hands from injury during training in historical fencing. These gloves provide full coverage for all five fingers in a lobster design.

The pockets are separated into a thumb slot, index and middles finger slot, and ring and pinkie fingers slot.

Thanks to these heavy gloves, training with heavy weapons, feders, and dussacks is much safer.

See Sizing tab for more information.

  • The 11cm fabric cuff is reinforced by six plates covered with leather in order to protect the wrist bones.
  • A leather belt with buckle enables manual adjustment of the glove at the wrist for a better fit.

Great protection December 8, 2017

These are a classic on the HEMA scene and you see them everywhere for good reason - they work very well for hand protection. They do limit mobility to some extent which is to be expected but overall they are great at doing what they are supposed to do which is keeping you from broken fingers.

SPES Heavy Gloves December 8, 2017

The Spez Heavy gauntlets are one of the best HEMA hand protection sports equipment on the market to date for sword waster sport combat.
I wear the Spez Heavy Gauntlets in full contact full target area sport combat. The Spez Heavy Gloves are based on the medieval hour glass gauntlet design which is excellent and the 2 finger leather glove insert is another great medieval design.
The armoured plates are made from hard plastic which protects your hand against full arc percussion strikes from hard plastic sword wasters. The Gloves give quite good 360 motion but give below average grip for your sword. So to improve the grip I cut a small curve out of part one plate between index finger and the thumb. The plates not being metal but being made of plastic is far better for safety and grappling and decreases the chance of injury to the opponent and damage to equipment.
I rate them 9 out 10

Everything I could have hoped for December 8, 2017
Reviewer: Michael Green from Pittsburgh, PA United States
The gloves are great and all the protection I'd hoped they'd be.  I'd assumed they'd be clunky and too bulky to move well.  But they don't impede my movement too much. The complaint I can register is that the thumb protection is fairly minimal.  But that can be rectified with some slight modifications.  Overall though a great glove that I'll be using for a long while.

Massive protection, however December 8, 2017

If the appearence enough doesn't give it away, these gloves are tanks. Besides the vulnerable point atop of the thumb and inside of the hand, your hands are very well protected. Breaking in these gloves didn't take too long for myself, but afterwards the mobility is fairly good. However, I have an issue with picking up belongings with these gloves on, and the need to take them off to retreive said item is a bit annoying. With that said, that is only a minor issue and a personal problem for me. This product is a wonderful option for extra protection.
