Description SIZING
A Rudis was a gift to a gladiator for a special achievement. This signified his release from a slave to a freeman. Our Rudis is an excellent and unique give for someone who has completed service in the military, retired, or completed an academic achievement.

Rudis can be engraved with corporate logo, military insignia and/or text in many different fonts. We have done Greek Paddles, like Alpha Epsilon Pi and others. One set was for a group of bestmen for a wedding. See below for engraving examples of our extensive military insignia catalog or on facebook. You may email your .jpg insignia file and engraving text to us at cd@woodenswords.com.

HOW TO ORDER: For text only, you may enter the text in the box above. Then choose the option for "back side engraving" Military customers use 'gousa' for a discount code. For graphics or additional engraving information, email us at cd@woodenswords.com

Email us a powerpoint layout of your proposed design. I'll work with you on proof. New unit graphics will cost more if I don't have it or can't find it. I need a hi-resolution black & white picture to work with. I have a good collection now, but there are plenty out there!

I can add one color by painting by hand fairly easy. More than one color gets very difficult. Please contact me first.

Only the Emperor could grand a Gladiator his freedom. That freedom could be obtained if the Gladiator bravely distinguished himself in a particular fight or if he had fulfilled his contract. The symbol of freedom given to a Gladiator was a wooden sword called a Rudis.

Also, EVOCATUS, was the Latin term for a soldier in the Roman Army who had served out his time and obtained a discharge.

The rudis and silk bag made for an absolutely perfect farewell gift! The rudis was beautiful, and everyone was asking about it....I think it will become a staple as the farewell gift in our office.

Rudis February 2, 2016

this is the 3rd Rudis I have purchased and each one has not only exceeded my expectations, but also the people I bought them for.  In my opinion, the Rudis is the perfect retirement gift from the military.  As shown in both the movie Gladiator and the show Spartacus, when a gladiator (our case warriors) is given their freedom, they are given a wooden Rudis to symbolize their freedom; what better represents a Soldier transitioning to the civilian life than a Rudis?

I cannot say enough about the quality of service. It was awesome. Quick responses to emails and the willingness to help. I will always recommend this site to my friends and family. I will also be returning for future wooden swords.
